Iām Alex, the Founder of Merlin Branding.
Our story begins with me working as a journalist in the UK, Venezuela and then India.
This was profitable but didn't have enough purpose so I started and led the campaign that saved Brixton Market.
This was amazing but didn't pay anything. To find how to combine purpose and profit I did an MA in Leadership for Sustainable Development with 'greens who do business' Forum for the Future.
After which I created Brew, The Tea Pub.
We crowdfunded, gaining more than 35 pieces of media coverage and raised 127% of our earning target and were Crowdcube's most-shared start-up.
But then my business partner died unexpectedly. Without him the Tea Pub wasn't able to carry on.
I was devastated and trying to work out what to do next when I got a call from a friend.
They were impressed with how successful the Tea Pub's branding had been and asked if I could help them market their business. Merlin Branding was born.
From there our core team has grown to include Alastair Ball. He's an expert in analysing data to make sure your marketing efforts zero in on who you want them to reach.
Between us we've done marketing work with brands such as O2, Aviva Investors and Shelter through to food and tech start-ups.
